At the annual Electronic
Entertainment Expo, game companies give a sneak peek of what they've got
in store for gamers. I've attended every E3 since 1997, and in all
honesty, this was the best show ever. Why? The game companies delivered
on all the vague promises made at last year's show. Nintendo and MS made
a lot of noise last year, but didn't have much to show; this year all
three console publishers debuted strong lineups. PC developers have
adjusted to the shock of new consoles and are capitalizing on the
computer's unique strengths. Every platform is moving full speed ahead
into the future of gaming: online. And the show's frenzy of one-upmanship
launched a price war that dropped the prices of PS2, Xbox, and GameCube
to "How can I afford not to get a new game system?" levels.
